The debate between plasma vs lcd screen rages on. AT first the plasma screens were really the only flat screens in the market. There simply were no decent sized LCD screens available. That all changed in the year 2000. Since then LCD screens have gained a sizeable marketshare and continue to do so. But is that really justified? Are LCD screens truly better then plasma? Why is there still any debate on this whole plasma vs lcd anyways?
Well lets compare these televisions side by side and see which one you would really end up buying.
One of the most popular Plasma televisions is the Samsung PN59D8000 and for good reason. This is one of the most technologically advanced plasma televisions on the market. With a 1.5 inch depth this has to be one of the thinnest 58 inch screens on the market. I have read many reviews and the general concensous is that the picture quality is about as good as you can get. Many people rated this 9 out of 10 or 4.5 out of 5 depending upon where I looked for reviews. Furthermore, the 3D technology has also improved. With so many movies and even television shows becoming 3D this is very important. There are hardly any blurs or other distortions that were reported by customers. This is a big improvement on the previous models.
Now continuing on this line of reviewing Plasma televisions I did notice the Panasonic TC-P50ST30 was also a popular model. Now this is a smaller television then the Samsung PN59D8000 as it is only 50 inches. However, so many people liked this T.V. I really do not think it was a major factor. Again I reviewed the reviews on the major online retailers and found very few people had problems. A crisp clean image was displayed with very little distortions and blur.
Now one of the biggest reasons people buy the above two televisions is to watch their shows in 3D. Plasma televisions are by far the best for this as you get a full 1080p in each eye. This simply is not the case with LCD televisions.
Clearly if you are going to compare plasma vs lcd screens you have to compare similar televisions. I strived to do this with the following two reviews.
I will now review two of the more popular LCD televisions on the market.
The first model that came into my line of sight for being the most widely accepted was the Toshiba 55TL515U. To be honest I am not a fan of anything Toshiba. I just do not find their products to be of the highest quality. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I read the reviews of this 55 inch television. I believe most of the positive reviews was because of Toshibas in built Dynalight technology. What the Dynalight technology does is adjust the screen to the ambient room light giving you a better perceived picture. One of the biggest complaints with LCD screens is that they are not easily viewed in bright setting. Well it seems like Toshiba has this problem licked.
The second model that came into my view was the Samsung UN55D7000 and I think one of the popular reasons why people love this television is its super thin case. Clearly if space is at a premimum then you must consider this model. One item to keep aware of though is that the reviews I read did have a lot of complaints with the included table top stand. So perhaps wall mounting may be best? It is surely worth considering if you are buying this television for space considerations.
The reviews of the picture quality were high but not as high as the many plasma televisions I reviewed with both of LCD models. While many LCD screens can perform near 9 out of 10 the Plasma models almost always received nearly perfect scores and just a few 9 out of 10 ratings.
From my understanding from all of these reviews if you really want to get the best television for your money Plasma is the best way to go. You will receive more features, have better picture quality and the screen depth size will be even thinner.
Has this debate between plasma vs lcd screens finally been decided? I would say no. While plasma screens certainly do seem to have much better reviews there will always be LCD advocates. Clearly something major will have to happen to finally settle the debate of plasma vs lcd.

There are a lot of interesting facts regarding LCD and Plasma televisions. For instance did you know that this technology was thought up by a Hungarian in 1936? I know I sure did not until I started to look into it.
These LCD displays have the ability to connect directly to your computer. This is because essentially these LCD televisions are much larger computer monitors. The blending of the line between the computer and the television is becoming more and more hazy and eventually they may completely merge together. If you buy a more expensive television the improvements will not only be in the screen resolution. The improvements in the in built sound system will be noticeable. You can really turn up the sound and experience no discernable degradation in quality. Most LCD TV packages come with mounting tools and brackets to place your television anywhere you want it to be. Some have even mounted their televisions above their beds in order to watch T.V. more comfortably at night. I have even considered doing this for a while.
The two primary factors that people look out for when buying their televisions is first the brightness and second the resolution. The higher the resolution the sharper the images will be. As well having a clear and bright display will surely help get the best image possible.
Many people however spend an enormous amount of money on their televisions and then neglect the cables that bind everything together. This is one of the biggest mistakes and will dramatically affect how crisp and clear your television can be. I use and highly recommend buying the best cables possible. I went wild and bought some gold wrapped cables to cut down on distortion and other glitches in the signal.
As well what type of connections you use can also affect the image resolution. For instance I connect my cable box to my television using the available HDMI slot. The reason being is that my cable box comes in full HD quality and I want to make sure I get that full HD signal. Will all plasma television have this capability? If you compare all the major brands of plasma vs lcd you will find this to be the case.
Another item that people leave out is not buying an extended warranty. This is a big mistake. Production mistakes can and do happen and you will be protected by this extended warranty. I know of several friends that had their televisions completely replaced at no charge because they were wise enough to buy the extended warranty. This is almost like a life insurance policy for your television and since you are paying so much money for it, why not insure it for just a little bit more.

Have you ever considered the remarkable history of plasma vs lcd televisions? Well if you are like most people you have not. However, it is a really fascinating story and it did not start with a desire to watch Monday Night Football in absolute crystal clarity. Actually the desire for better televisions started with the computer revolution. Since most televisions at that time were extremely poor for displaying any type of text a better alternative had to be invented.
This type of television was invented by a Hungarian scientist by the name of Kálmán Tihanyi. He was originally tasked with developing displays for the defense department and their radar systems. As well he is known for coming up with a prototype for an optically controlled pilot less aircraft. As well he did make significant progress in the development of cathode ray tube displays. He is believed to be the very first to suggest the ideas behind plasma televisions in 1936.
This was the beginning of the plasma televisions. The need for scientists to read better text from their computers spurred higher and higher standards for displays. At this time the only other alternative were displays that used a cathode ray tube or CRT. I am sure you remember those bulky computer monitors from the early 1980’s and late 1990’s, well those monitors used CRT technology to display the computer graphics.
Later on and building from the work of Kálmán Tihanyi the team of David Bitzer, H Gene Slottow and Robert Wilson from the University of Illinois came up with the first black and white plasma television. This was in 1964. The very first color plasma television was developed by Fujitsu in 1992. Fujitsu was also the very first producer of the 42 inch plasma television. The invention of plasma displays came about when the desire for a flatter and clearer and crisper image was needed. Instead of using CRT technology the plasma displays at this time used cells.
